A Labor Day event, “Burgers Buy the Pool,” was held on Monday, Sept. 3. The event was held as a fundraiser, hosted by JavaJax in Sweetwater, for the Nolan County Girl Scouts to help with their efforts in restoring the swimming pool at Camp Boothe Oaks.
Improvements to the pool are necessary in order for the Girl Scouts to have an energy efficient, ADA compliant swimming pool that would draw full enrollment for a Summer Resident Girl Scout Camp to once again be held at the local camp facility. Several Girl Scouts began raising funds for this endeavor after attending the recent 60th Anniversary Open House for Camp Boothe Oaks and realizing the need for extensive pool renovation.
An account was opened at First Financial Bank (account #10120019624) to enable all Nolan County Girl Scouts, friends, families and the public at large in making the pool renovation a reality. JavaJax, with the help of local scouts, served a hamburger dinner.
In addition to the meal, entertainment was provided by Texas singer-songwriter George Ensle of Austin, who performed through the evening.
