Gas prices fall again

June 15, 2012

Gas prices in Sweetwater currently stand at $3.29.

While friends and family plan their summer road trips there’s good news again this week for drivers across the Lone Star State. The current average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Texas is now $3.33, which is five cents less than last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. Drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.51, while drivers in Fort Worth are paying the least at $3.27. Drivers in Sweetwater are currently paying $3.29.
The multi-month slide in gas prices has been largely the result of bearish global economic news and declining crude oil prices, which have fallen more than $20 per barrel since the beginning of May. Nationwide the average for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $3.53. In the continental United States, drivers in Washington State are paying the most at $4.09, and drivers in South Carolina are paying the least at $3.10.
“Right now Texans are paying an average of 20 cents less than the national average. The cost to fill up a 14-gallon tank, the size of a typical family car, is now about $47 dollars,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico Public Affairs Representative Doug Shupe. “Drivers can get even more fuel savings by properly maintaining their vehicles according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and by ensuring their tires have proper tread and inflation before heading out on the road.”
To help consumers identify quality auto repair shops that can assist in the maintenance and repair of their vehicles, AAA offers the Approved Auto Repair program as a free public service. AAA-approved repair facilities meet and maintain high professional standards for training, equipment, cleanliness and customer service. Motorists can look for the Approved Auto Repair sign at local auto repair facilities, or search for a nearby AAA-approved shop online at AAA.com/Repair.
