In an ongoing effort to improve safety and relieve congestion, the Texas Transportation Commission recently approved $11.5 million for a project to improve nearly three miles of US 84 in Nolan County.
Price Construction, Ltd., of Big Spring was awarded the project to reconstruct, realign and widen US 84 from five miles east of the Mitchell County line to about a mile northwest of Roscoe. A start date for the project has not been set, but construction is expected to be under way by early 2014.
âAs Texas roadways become increasingly crowded, we must find ways to relieve congestion without compromising safety,â said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. âKeeping travelers moving safely and efficiently will continue to be an ongoing priority as Texas welcomes nearly 1,000 newcomers each day.â
âIn a state as vast as Texas, itâs imperative to not only have reliable roadways connecting our rural and urban citizens, but also to be diligent in designing and maintaining them with safety in mind,â said Commissioner Fred Underwood, Texas Transportation Commission. âKeeping everyone safe on the road is our first priority. We must do everything we can to get the driving public safely to their destinations and home to their families at the end of the day.âÂ
