Clyde uses 7-run 6th to outscore Lady Mustangs softball team in opener

Clyde broke open a close game against Sweetwater with a seven-run sixth in-ning on Tuesday en route to beating the Lady Mustangs, 16-7, in their opening game of the 2013 season at the Jerry Collins Complex.
Sweetwater led only once — 2-0 after one inning — but trailed only 8-7 after coming up with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Top hitters for Sweetwater included Jerren Villa with two singles and three RBI; Maty Montgomery with three singles and one RBI; Alyssa Heredia and Keyli Turner with a double and single; and Morgan Gomez with two singles. Alyssa Villanueva scored twice and Gomez, Villa, Heredia and Lena Lovelady once. Montgomery pitched and struck out four while allowing 11 hits. Turner threw out two Clyde runners as the team’s catcher. Sweetwater will play at the Abilene Ice Breaker tournament through Saturday, starting with three games today.
