APPLAUSE Members celebrated good food, drink, fellowship and classical music at the home of Arthur and Danna Maberry on Friday, April 20. This is the fourth year that the Maberrys have hosted the APPLAUSE Classical Soiree event in their lovely home. A bonus for members who join the APPLAUSE Music Series, this is a special event to say: “thank you” to those who support the cultural arts series and the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium.
In addition to being an excellent chef, Danna Maberry is a fine pianist and Art Maberry is a member of the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium Board. The couple has supported the APPLAUSE Series since it was founded in 2014. After seeing Danna provide a full array of outstanding cuisine by herself, several other Auditorium supporters offered to assist with the rest of the food and wine.
Entertainment was provided by James Craig, the singing lawyer, who performed in an operatic style inside the elegant home. One of the songs he performed was the traditional gospel hymn, “How Great Thou Art”. Local pianist Martha Taylor had been scheduled to assist on piano but had been taken ill and Craig was graciously assisted by the very capable Danna Mayberry.
In addition to five music concerts at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium, the SMA APPLAUSE Series presents art shows, receptions and two in-home parties for APPLAUSE members. The season begins in October and is completed with an APPLAUSE Awards Luncheon each May.
