City election slated for Saturday, May 11

With the city election coming up on Saturday, May 11, approval was given at Tuesday's Sweetwater City Commission meeting for the appointment of election judges and alternate judges.
They will be Kevin Shipp and Jim Kelley (Precinct 1), Ada Belle Clark and Rhea Hendrix (Precinct 2), Barbara Baker and Chris Stephens (Precinct 3) and Ann McCarthy and Olga Balderas (Precinct 4).
As stated in the February meeting, the city election will be held to vote for mayor — currently filled by Greg Wortham — and commissioners in Precincts 1 and 3. At the present, Larry May and Ricky Castro, respectively, serve in that capacity.
Because of the May election, the city's budget workshop will be held after the vote. City Manager Eddie Brown stated in part of his monthly report that, as the fiscal year is already halfway completed, city staff is currently working on budget packets for the 2013-2014 budget.
During the meeting, the minutes for the meeting held on Feb. 12 were approved as well. Approval was also given on a contract with Cathrine Wilks, certified public accountant, for the performance of an agreed-upon procedures engagement for the mid-year report as of March 31, 2013.
Brown noted that the city charter asks that two audits be conducted annually, in which the approval of the mid-year report will meet the requirement. In addition, the commissioners approved the audit engagement letter with Wilks to perform the audit for the fiscal year ending on Sept. 30, 2013.
