The West Texas Art Guild is sponsoring a Children's Art Show at the County-City Library for the month of March. The show will be divided into five age groups as follows: Ages 3-5; ages 6-8; ages 9-11; ages 12-14; and ages 15-18.
The name and age of the child must be attached to the back of the artwork.
Ribbons will be awarded to first, second, third and Honorable Mention winners. One Best-Of-Show ribbon for the over-all best artwork will be awarded. Artwork needs to be matted or at least attached to a piece of construction paper so that judges are able to handle it in some way. Judges will take all media in two dimensions (no sculpture); photography will be accepted (cannot be photo-shopped).
An entry card must be filled out and attached to the artwork. All artworks are due at the County-City Library on Thursday, Feb. 28. The show will open on Saturday, March 2 and a reception will be held for the artists, their friends and family from 10 a.m. to noon that morning. An out of town judge will judge this show.
All artworks must remain in the library until March 30. For additional information, call Judy Hill at 325-668-2132 or 325-235-8305 or Carolyn Walker at 325-242-0083 or 325-728-2184.
The West Texas Art Guild is located in Colorado City. Members come from Colorado City, Big Spring, Roscoe, San Angelo, Sweetwater, Snyder and other surrounding communities. The group promotes art in several ways.
Each November the club hosts a Regional Art Show, open to all artists, not just club members. They host a Children's Art Show in the spring, presenting them with ribbons and also art supplies as prizes. “It is amazing what wonderful things the children produce.”
The West Texas Art Guild also hosts an art exhibit in the spring that enables the community to see what talent adult artists posses. “Our art has been exhibited at the Sweetwater library and also businesses in and around Colorado City.”
The West Texas Art Guild is a non-profit organization and the majority of the money raised goes straight back into the community. They also give a scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in some art form.
