Chaos at local church

May 29, 2012

The summer-long children's ministry, CHAOS, will start on Wednesday night, June 6 at 7 p.m. at 4th and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater.

While a lot of people would steer clear of chaos, a local church is wanting children to take part in the craziness.
4th and Elm Church of Christ is breaking the mold with summertime children's ministries. Instead of the week-long Vacation Bible School (VBS) program, the church's children's coordinator, Melanie Gibson, is announcing CHAOS--a weekly program on Wednesday nights.
Starting on June 6 from 7 to 8 p.m., children ages 3 through students entering the 5th grade next school year will participate in four different activities: Bible story, puppets, crafts and snacks. CHAOS will run every Wednesday night through the entire summer and will end on August 29.
This is the first year for CHAOS, said Gibson, who uses the name of the program in a two-fold manner. She said that even though events like this tend to be wild and crazy, 'chaos' is the Japanese symbol for opportunity.
Through the ministry, the church has the opportunity to teach children about Jesus. The two themes taught throughout the summer will be the person Christ needs and Jesus as the sacrifice and Savior.
Everyone is invited to join the fun, and adults and parents are welcome to stay as well. On Wednesday, August 8, "Super CHAOS" will be held, which will include a bounce house, a meal and games for a family-fun event.
CHAOS is just one part of the church's children's ministry called "ENERGY", an acronym for "Educating Nurturing Equipping to Raise Godly Youth". Children's classes for babies through 5th graders also take place every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with regular Wednesday night classes starting at 7 p.m. during the school year.
