Custom Touch Homes recently unveiled their workforce housing project planned for Nolan County at a ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. The project is geared towards oil field workers in the Cline Shale region. Custom Touch Homes unveiled a sample unit at the event. Those who attended the event got to walk inside the unit. Modern amenities included automatic water heaters and ample-sized kitchens and kitchenettes.
Scott Larson, chief financial officer of Custom Touch Homes, said they will target oil companies and oil-related services firms to lease the units. All the lots will be landscaped. The company also will lease RVs on site.
“The one-acre lots will be for people who want to stay obviously for long term,” Larson said. “We can still deliver those homes here and build a garage for them and do a turnkey process so they can move right in without any headaches.”
The group also has purchased land for the same purpose in Snyder and Colorado City. Combined, Larson said the project will have about 500 acres.
“It’s quite a trek down here but with all the activity down here, we feel (the area) is in a great position right now,” Larson said. “There’s plenty of room. We can build hotels, pods, apartment buildings and whatever (the companies) need, depending on their needs. We’ll make it work.”
Housing in general could be a problem should there be an influx of oil field workers in the areas covered by the Cline.
The Cline Shale formation covers portions of Coke, Fisher, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Nolan, Mitchell, Scurry and Sterling counties. Initial estimates indicate it holds 30 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
