SHS golfers compete at Abilene tourney
Sweetwater High School golfers Amy Witt and Elise Lawrence both competed at Abilene’s Halloween tourn-ament that held on Friday and Saturday.
The tournament was held on Friday at Maxwell Golf Course and on Saturday at Diamondback Golf Course with a total of 22 teams, including Class 5A schools from Dallas, San Antonio and Amarillo plus defending Class 3A champion Andrews. The tournament medalist shot 64 and 68 and won by just one shot, said SHS coach Carola Martin.
Witt shot 86 — her low-est round ever — at Max-well on Friday and a 95 on Saturday for a 181 total, and Lawrence shot 97-92-189.
“It was a great experience for the girls and got them excited about improving their games to get ready for spring golf,” Martin said.
Par was 71 for both of the courses, Martin said.
“It was unbelievable golf,” she said. “It was the best golf I have experienced at any tournament, including the state tournament.”
Martin said her players will continue to practice in order to get ready for the start of the spring season, which begins the first week-end in February.
