Carlos Xavier Alvarado, Sr., 63, of Sweetwater died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Abilene.
Rosary will be recited at McCoy Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 by Deacon Bill Butler, with Holy Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Bush will officiate. Final disposition will be cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1950, in Sweetwater.
Carlos was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University and Master’s degrees from Sul Ross University and Loyola College. He was a U.S. history and U.S. government teacher at Sweetwater High School until his retirement.
He then opened Alvarado Tire Center in Sweetwater. Carlos was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and he also served as the past chairman and as a member of the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Board for 22 years. He spearheaded the construction of the hospital’s new emergency room. Carlos was a member of the Sweetwater Jaycees and had lived in Sweetwater all his life.
He is survived by one son, Lt. Col. Carlos Alvarado, Jr. and wife Cyndi of North Carolina; one daughter, Crescencia Garcia and husband Isaiah, Sr. of Sweetwater; one sister, Rosa Aguilar and husband Daniel, Sr. of Sweetwater; three brothers, Victor Q. Alvarado and wife Lydia of Sweetwater, Julian Alvarado of Sweetwater and Lee Raymon Alvarado of McCamey; seven grandchildren, Miguel Alvarado, Michaiah Royal, Maximus Alvarado, Isaiah Garcia, Jr., Alexis Alvarado, Leyna Alvarado and Carlos Alvarado III; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Rosa Alvarado.
Pallbearers will be Miguel Alvarado, Victor Lee Alvarado, Marcus Silva, Marc Silva, Manuel Medina and Rufus Palacios, Jr.
