Recap of Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday, September 17

Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough announced that the burn ban for the county has been lifted during a special-called Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, September 17.
The judge cited the recent rainfall received throughout the area--some totals almost reaching one inch--as reason for lifting the ban. The burn ban will remain lifted until the next meeting date, which is set for Monday, September 24 at 9 a.m. at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Also at the meeting, final action was taken toward the 2012-2013 proposed budget and tax rate. A public hearing was held on the budget, but no input was heard.
The commissioners then discussed changes to the proposed budget, with Precinct 2 Commissioner Terry Locklar wanting to raise the hourly rate of temporary workers to $10. While he made the motion, a second was not heard, as the other commissioners stated that they would share their workers as needed in order to complete county projects.
Thus, with no changes made, the 2012-2013 budget was approved to be adopted for the county.
In addition, the vote to raise more revenue from property taxes than in the last year was approved, in order to ratify the property tax increase reflected in the budget.
Closing out the meeting was the vote on the tax rate for 2012-2013, with the commissioners approving the total property tax rate of .394635 per $100 valuation. This new total is the combination of the general fund--at .340670 per $100 valuation--and the farm to market fund of .053965 per $100 valuation.
