For Brandon Brinkman of Blackwell, there are two events to run in at the state track meet now instead of one after he earned a wild card invitation Monday to compete in the boys Class 1A 300-meter hurdles.
Brinkman finished with the best time (41.31) of the third-place finishers in the state’s four regions. He also has the fifth-best state qualifying time in the field.
Brinkman also qualified for state in the 110 hurdles for Blackwell, along with Hunter Clark, at regionals. Clark was first (15.96) and Brinkman second (16.12).
Kiley Cummings (three events) and Jordan Jones are the Blackwell girls’ state qualifiers. Cummings will go in the triple jump as well as the 400- and 800-meter runs, and Jones in the pole vault. Darrian Kenney fell short in her bid to go to the state meet for Blackwell in the high jump, after she finished third at the regional meet (4-10).
The state meet is set for May 11-12 in Austin.
