Nolan County high school basketball scores

Overall, the Nolan County high school girls teams fared better than the boys teams in area basketball tournament action that ended Wednesday.
The Highland and Ros-coe girls finished second in their respective tournaments and the Sweetwater girls placed third. Roscoe had the best boys finish as the Plowboys won consol-ation honors, while High-land’s boys placed seventh.
Highland’s girls and boys played at the Cotton Classic held at Grady and Klondike. The girls (11-9) routed Southland 60-19 and Trinity 58-20 before losing to Klondike 57-45 in the title game. Sierra Allen had 22 points against Southland; Callie Sandusky had 17 and Kara Hughey 16 against Trinity; and Hughey had 13, Sandusky 11 and Allen 10 against Klondike. The boys, who play again at 2 p.m. Friday when they host Ira in a district game, fell to Southland 38-15 and Trinity 49-24 before edging Klondike 51-48 in overtime in Wednesday’s seventh-place game to pick up only their second win in 16 games this season. Josh Andrews poured in 21 points, Landon Rowlett 14 and Ron Covington 12 against Klondike.
At Sterling City, the Roscoe girls (7-10) beat Sands 44-39 and TLC Academy 36-32 before losing to Forsan 43-25 in Wednesday’s title game. Jacinda Morales had 13 points against Sands; Lynnsi Moses had 12 against TLC Academy; and Kim Norris had 17 against Forsan.
And at Breckenridge, the Sweetwater girls (13-9) beat Throckmorton 36-32 to begin the tournament but then lost to Merkel, 45-18, before edging Hamlin 57-55 in the third-place game. Against Throckmorton, Taylor McKoy had 16 points while Alicia Finn scored eight against Merkel and had 22 against Hamlin while McKoy scored 11. The Lady Mustangs play again at 3 p.m. Friday when they go to Colorado City, and the Sweetwater boys will also play at Colorado City on Friday afternoon, as will the JV girls and boys. The Mustang boys (5-9) lost to Lamesa 71-38 on Tuesday with Taylor Jones scoring 11 points to pace Sweetwater in its opening game of the Lubbock Caprock Classic.
Meanwhile, the Roscoe boys (7-6) finished on a high note after losing their opener at Sterling City’s two-day tournament. The Plowboys beat Rankin 34-23 to capture the consolation title as Caden Smith scored 11 points and Juan Solis 10. Roscoe beat TLC Academy 66-63 a day earlier to reach the consolation final, thanks to Smith’s amazing 40-point performance plus 14 points by Cody Graham. Roscoe had lost to Miles 53-34 in its opener, with Smith scoring 14 points and Graham 12.
While the Sweetwater boys and girls and Highland’s boys are all scheduled to play their final game of 2010 on Friday, the other five Nolan County teams — Highland’s girls as well as both teams from Roscoe and Blackwell — don’t resume until Tuesday. Roscoe travels to Eula, Blackwell is at Paint Rock and Highland will go to Loraine.
