‘Stangs fall 7-4 in opener

GREENWOOD — Sweet-water trailed 3-0 before coming to bat Friday. And after it fought back to tie the opener of its best-of-3 area baseball playoff with Fort Stockton in the fourth inning, the Panthers regained the lead for good with one decisive blow in a 7-4 win at Greenwood High School.
The loss left the Mustangs needing a pair of wins on Saturday to keep their season alive and advance to the regional quarterfinals. A story will be in Monday’s Sweetwater Reporter.

Allen places in 2 events at Austin, but misses medal

AUSTIN — Highland’s Hannah Allen placed but did not medal in her third appearance at the state track meet Friday. She just missed medaling in the 300 hurdles with a fourth-place time of 49.48 seconds and was sixth in the 100 hurdles, where she had a time of 16.86 seconds. Allen ran on the 1600 relay for Highland at state each of the past two years and she also ran in the 300 hurdles in 2014.

Several athletes will play in FCA all-star games in June

In addition to three area coaches, a total of 14 area high school senior athletes and cheerleaders will be participating next month in the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival, a three-day event being held in three West Texas cities.

Mustangs begin Round 2

After a two-game sweep in Lubbock last Friday against Borger, Sweetwater’s baseball team will be hoping for another quick series when it starts a best-of-3 area round playoff series with Fort Stockton tonight at Midland Greenwood.

Sweetwater begins its area playoff against Fort Stockton on Friday at Midland Greenwood High School. The best-of-3 series will wrap up on Saturday.
