McGee is honored by TSWA

Isaiah McGee of Sweet-water has recently earned Class 3A second team all-state recognition as an all-purpose back by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
McGee, a 5-9 junior, racked up over 1,000 yards receiving and rushing last season for the Mustangs with eight TDs — four receiving and four rushing. He also scored on a fumble return, and in December earned all-state honorable mention by the Associated Press Sports Editors as a defensive back. McGee caught 33 passes for 595 yards and rushed for a team-high 419 yards, while also finishing second on the team with 98 tackles.

Mustangs beat Andrews with 6-run rally in the 7th

Victories can come in all kinds of ways.
And lately, that’s all the Sweetwater High School baseball team has done in building a 12-3 season rec-ord with just one game left until District 4-3A play gets started next week.
Having said that, Mon-day’s 9-8 win over Andrews at Sportsman’s Park — Sweetwater’s ninth straight — won’t soon be forgotten by anyone who saw it.
It came after the Mustangs trailed 8-1 with only six outs remaining, and 8-3 going into their final at bat before scoring six runs in the bot-tom of the seventh.

Lady Mustangs outscore MC in final district tuneup

After being idle for the previous eight days, Sweet-water High School’s softball team finally returned to ac-tion Monday at the Jerry Collins Complex.
And in what was their last game before the start of dis-trict play, the Lady Mus-tangs shook off the rust to outscore Midland Christian, 14-12, while improving to 9-6 this season.
Sweetwater trailed only once (1-0 after a half inning) against Midland Christian, but the visitors kept things interesting until the end.

McGee, Williams win at Big Spring

The Sweetwater boys track team got individual wins from Isaiah McGee and Deshaun Williams this past Friday at the Steer Relays in Big Spring.
McGee long jumped 20 feet, 9 1/4 inches to win his event and Williams was first in the high jump (6-0). Also placing in the high jump was Johnathan Browning, who cleared 5-10 for a fourth-place finish.
The girls got top individual finishes from Ziggy Collins, who was second in the discus (97-10); Abby Garcia, who was third in the high jump (5-0) and fourth in the 200 (27.41); and Nis-ha Williams, who was fourth in the 100 (13.34).

Roscoe teams host Black.-Divide Relays

‘Stangs win title at Midland

It may be spring break for Sweetwater ISD students all week, but the baseball and softball teams are both in action here today. Sweet-water’s softball team starts District 4-3A play Friday at Snyder. The baseball team is now 11-3 after defeating Lake View, 8-1, in its fourth and final game Saturday to win the championship of the West Texas March Classic in Midland. Sweetwater had won eight straight entering today’s game vs. Andrews at Sportsman’s Park.

Stephen May is pictured in recent action for the Sweet-water High School baseball team, which was off to a 10-3 start and on a seven-game winning streak going into Saturday’s final game of the West Texas March Classic tournament in Mid-land.
The Mustangs will host Andrews at noon Monday, and also host Estacado on Thursday before starting district play on March 18 at Mid-land Greenwood.
