SW offense hits paydirt often vs. LV

SAN ANGELO — It looks like opposing defenses may be in for another long year against Sweetwater when the season begins Aug. 29.
Sweetwater, which aver-aged 34 points a season this past year, scored six times on Friday in its season-opening scrimmage when the Mustangs traveled to San Angelo to face the Class 5A Lake View Chiefs.

Lady ‘Stangs start out with victories over two S-Angelo area schools

Sweetwater High School’s volleyball team won its first two matches of the year by defeating two San Angelo area schools, Grape Creek and Lake View, this past week before losing at Abilene Cooper on Thursday.
Sweetwater swept both Grape Creek and Lake View by 3-0 scores, beating Grape Creek at home 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 this past Monday and winning at Lake View on Tuesday by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 26-24.

Mustangs, area football teams to get their 1st tests

After nearly two weeks of hitting each other in prac-tices, the four area high school football teams finally get a taste of outside competition starting today.
In 11-man ball, Sweet-water goes to San Angelo’s Bobcat Stadium this evening for its opening scrimmage against San Angelo Lake View, while Roscoe is at home to take on Haskell. Sweetwater’s scrimmage is set to begin with the JV and freshman teams at 5 p.m., with the varsity taking the field at approximately 6:15, according to Mustang coach Shane Mobley, while Roscoe will begin its skir-mish at 6 p.m.

Plowboys introduced to public

This year’s Roscoe Plowboys football team was introduced during the school’s “Plowboy Preview” that was held Thursday night at Plowboy Field.
School cheerleaders and the Roscoe band also performed for the public. Roscoe hosts Haskell in its opening scrimmage today starting at 6 p.m.

Hornets still have sting

After a few lean years, the Blackwell football program has produced back-to-back playoff appearances and in 2013, the Hornets got their first postseason win since 1996 before falling to the eventual state champions — Grandfalls-Royalty — in the second round.

Plowboys hope for return to glory

After bottoming out with an 0-10 record in 2011, Roscoe’s proud football program is once again headed in the right direction.
The Plowboys, who prior to that winless season had gone to the playoffs for 13 consecutive years, could be primed for a breakthrough in 2014 after narrowly missing the postseason in head coach Jake Freeman’s inaugural campaign.
Roscoe went 4-6 in 2013, and was in contention for a berth until the team lost to Roby in its season finale.
