SW comes back, tops Big Spring

When visiting Big Spring took an early 8-0 lead in Game 1 of Tuesday’s match at Mustang Gym, the Sweet-water volleyball team knew it was in an uphill battle. And things got even worse, as Big Spring won the first two games of the match and needed just one more win to complete the sweep and celebrate no worse than a district co-championship.

Sweetwater failed to take advantage of the home field vs. Monahans on Thursday and lost three middle school games with one tie.

SW clinches 3rd with win

LUBBOCK — In its final road match before starting the playoffs next week, the Sweetwater volleyball team clinched the No. 3 berth in District 2-4A Saturday with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 win over Lubbock Estacado. Sweetwater (6-3, 21-12) entertains Big Spring — the co-leader at 8-1 — Tuesday to end the season. Levelland (8-1) and Snyder (4-5) are also going to the playoffs.

Roscoe runners going to regionals

HAMLIN — Roscoe’s Lyn-di Wilkinson and Alejandra Solis advanced to regional competition by placing fifth and 10th, respectively, at the district cross country meet in Hamlin. The regio-nal meet will be held Friday in Lubbock. Other Roscoe district results follow:

For all the accomplishments over the first seven games, Sweetwater’s football team still felt it had something to prove coming into Friday’s district game against Monahans.
Even with their gaudy 7-0 record, the Mustangs were looking for that knockout punch, that signature victory against a top-caliber opponent to put a punctuation mark on their season.

Sub-varsity units fall at Monahans

Javier Olguin had a 3-yard run in the first quarter for Sweetwater’s JV, but that was it for the Mustangs (2-1 in district, 6-2 overall).
Other Sweetwater stand-outs against Monahans included Justin Allen (hard running), Luis Vasquez (good blocking at tight end), Tate Rainey (defense) and Junior Lawhon (defense).
“We had kids out with injuries and were down numbers-wise,” said coach Jarrod Gee. “But I thought the guys played hard and finished. That’s all we ask.”

Plowboys rally for a 30-14 win over Lions

ROSCOE — Roby’s Lions got the upper hand on Roscoe’s Plowboys gwith a 14-6 lead in the second quarter on Ridgdon Terry’s 7-yard run. However, a pair of Vincent Pantoja touchdown runs for 16 and 4 yards, respectively, was the start of better things for Roscoe as the Plowboys (4-4 overall, 2-1 district) rallied to beat Roby convincingly, 30-14, in a District 6-2A, Division II game Friday.
