SW feels Highland’s sting, 57-24

After consecutive trips to Austin, Highland girls basketball coach Shea Baucom said goodbye to three starters — 6-1 Sierra Allen, 5-10 Beth Richburg and 6-0 Schyler Kimbrell — who were a key part of that ultra-successful two-year run.

The Battle of Ohio had some playoff implications for the first time in years. Cleveland took sole possession of first place in the AFC North after a dominating victory over Cincinnati. Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton had the worst performance of his career as he went 10-33 for 86 yards and 3 interceptions. This resulted in a quarterback rating of 2. As for Cleveland, this marks the latest in the season they have been in first place since 1994.

SW girls to start hoops at Highland

November 11, 2014

The 2014-15 girls basketball season begins today for all four Nolan County high school varsity teams. Two of them — Sweetwater and Highland — will be playing each other at Highland with tip-off at 6:30 p.m. Roscoe will host Robert Lee starting at 6:15 p.m. and Blackwell entertains Loraine at 6 p.m.

The final game of the season saw both eighth grade Sweetwater Middle School football teams come out vic-torious against Lamesa.
The seventh grade Sweet-water Middle School White team finally got a win by beating Lamesa 28-0 in its season finale on Thursday.

It took the Sweetwater football team four quarters to wrap up a perfect regular season here Friday.
But the team’s first 10-0 regular season since 1997 was virtually guaranteed a lot sooner than that.

Roscoe wins playoff berth

BRONTE — It was just three years ago that Roscoe’s football team failed to win a game. But after Friday’s convincing 44-20 Plowboys win over Bronte, that seems like a distant memory.
Thanks to Friday’s victo-ry, Roscoe is headed back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season.

Blackwell rips Trent to win title

BLACKWELL — They’re back — once again.
Just three years ago, the Blackwell football team was winless on the field and the program’s future was un-clear. But after a 60-6 rout of Trent on Thursday, the Hornets are District 7-1A, Division II champs — it’s their second straight title — and headed to the playoffs for the third year in a row.
