A pair of Sweetwater High School football players are on the All-Big Country preseason Super Team that was announced Sunday by the Abilene Reporter-News.

SHS spikers split six matches at SA

Sweetwater High School’s varsity volleyball team won three of its six matches over the weekend at San Angelo’s two-day tournament.
The Lady Mustangs, who are 9-7, will host Graham and Breckenridge Tuesday before a one-week break.

Banyard helps the Vikings defeat KC

Former Sweetwater High School athlete Joe Banyard rushed four times for 15 yards to help the Minneso-ta Vikings improve to 3-0 in NFL preseason play with a 30-12 win on Saturday night over the Kansas City Chiefs. Banyard was in three games for the Vikings last season and is competing for a ros-ter spot again this year.

Fall sports athletes introduced

Sweetwater High School’s fall sports athletes were introduced during “Meet the Mustangs’ on Thursday night at Mustang Bowl.
The SHS tennis team and cross country team (shown) were introduced along with the football and volleyball teams plus the SHS cheerleaders, band and student trainers. Introductions were made during and after the Sweetwater vs. Clyde scrimmages by each team’s coaches.

Mustangs score big again in last tuneup

The Sweetwater offense continued to fly high in Thursday’s final scrimmage against Clyde at Mustang Bowl as it matched the number of touchdowns (6) it had in its first scrimmage at San Angelo Lake View a week earlier.
This time the format was a bit different, but Sweet-water’s resounding 6-2 edge in touchdowns was similar to its previous week’s 6-3 “win” over the Chiefs.

SHS volleyball team stays over .500 by defeating WV

Sweetwater High School’s volleyball tournament kept its season record over .500 entering a tournament in San Angelo this weekend after a straight-set win at Water Valley on Tuesday.
Sweetwater — now 6-4 overall — prevailed 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 just one night after losing in five games at Sterling City. Prior to that, the Lady Mustangs reached the second round of the Bev Ball Classic’s Gold Bracket in Abilene before being eli-minated by an ex-district rival, Wylie. The pool play results are in the accompa-nying story.

Sweetwater’s volleyball team had three pool games at the Bev Ball Classic that was held this past weekend in Abilene.
The Lady Mustangs beat Lubbock High 25-19, 25-19 in their first pool game last Friday and also won 25-22, 25-21 over Brownwood in their second pool game until a loss to Burleson left the Lady Mustangs with a final 2-1 pool record in the tournament’s Gold Bracket. Sweetwater lost its third game by scores of 13-25, 12-25 to Burleson. Sweet-water faced Sterling City and Wylie in bracket play.

The Sweewater High School JV volleyball team has claimed several wins in recent days.
The Lady Mustangs won first place at a tournament they hosted on Aug. 16.
Sweetwater started out by defeating Jim Ned 25-21, 25-13, and also defeated Levelland (25-16, 25-21) and Wall (25-14, 25-21) in straight sets before downing Big Spring 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 for the title. No indi-vidual stats were available.
