A total of 10 Sweetwater High School softball players have been given all-District 2-4A recognition for their outstanding achievements during one of the Lady Mustangsâ€™ best seasons in school history.
Four players â€” pitcher Maddie Berry, outfielder Abby Garcia, catcher Naomi Gonzales and infielder Cierra Knox â€” were named to the first team for Sweet-water while three others â€” infielders Morgan Gomez and Megan Holsey and out-fielder Lauren Jones â€” are on the second team.
Isaiah McGee was recently chosen as â€śMr. Mustangâ€ť at Sweetwater High School.
McGee was one of five recently-graduated SHS senior athletes who was nominated for the honor, along with Bray Amos, Ty Crain, Kaegan Jeffrey and J.P. Poe. McGee participated in football â€” where he won all-state and all-area recognition â€” basketball, baseball and track. He was also named all-district in baseball and was a regional qualifier in track.
Sweetwater will be playing in a 7-on-7 football state qualifying tournament held in Brock on Saturday.
The state qualifying event at Brock will have 16 teams divided into four pools and Sweetwater plays each of the other three teams in its pool, beginning with Springtown at 10 a.m.

Sweetwaterâ€™s remaining three teams lost their single-elimination games in District 5 Little League tournament play Monday.
The Major League Red Sox, the only local team to advance in Saturdayâ€™s first round, lost to the Dixie Cubs 11-6.

A fundraiser was held at the Sweetwater High School gym this past Friday. The event was intended to allow varsity volleyball players to participate in summer camps and pay tournament entry fees and other costs. A drawing was held at the event and a Henry Golden Boy .22 rifle was given to Tony Cortez, the winner of the drawing.
Four Sweetwater Little League teams began play on Saturday at single-elimination District 5 tournaments in the Big Country area.
But only one of them â€” the Major League (ages 11-12) Red Sox â€” was able to advance to the second round as they beat the Abilene Southern Royals, 7-1.

Sweetwaterâ€™s Major League (ages 11-12) Storm played Saturday at a District 5 Little League tournament, losing to the Snyder Brewers 10-5 in Snyder. Players are (in no particular order) Joseph Beall, Logan Cornutt, Ethan Cortez, Jacob Cunningham, Corbin Gomez, Andy Hermosillio, Leo Holsey, Hector Medina, Antonio Neri, Austin Ramirez, Jacob Rosas, Ezra Stewart and Jonathan Gallegos. The teamâ€™s coaches are Andrew Medina, Tony Cortez and Tim Holsey.
