Loraine defeats Blackwell, 49-22

November 19, 2012

HERMLEIGH — After making the six-man playoffs with a thrilling last-second win a week earlier, Blackwell got off to a promising start in its Division II bi-district meeting with Loraine on Friday.
The Hornets, however, couldn’t finish what they started on this night after getting inside Loraine’s 20 on their first two possessions. Blackwell did tie Loraine, 8-8, in the second quarter, but it was pretty much all downhill from there as Loraine won 49-22 to advance into the next round of the playoffs and end Blackwell’s season.

The sting is back

November 15, 2012

Back in mid-August, there were at least three good reasons to think the 2012 football season would be nothing special at Blackwell:
• Two straight losing seasons, including a 1-9 rec-ord in 2011 where the only victory came by forfeit;
• A lack of senior leader-ship, with just three of them on the roster;
• The growing pains of adjusting to an all-new coaching staff.
Yet three months later, the Hornets are still going to practice and preparing for their first playoff game in four years.
