Junior varsity softball team

April 4, 2013

Sweetwater High School’s junior varsity softball team, pictured here, returns to action at approximately 7 p.m. Friday.
The team will play at Snyder immediately after the varsity game at 5 p.m., with both games to be played at Snyder. The varsity baseball team will also play at Snyder on Friday, with the contest set to begin at 7 p.m., while the JV baseball team hosts Snyder at noon Saturday.

District medalist contender

Sweetwater’s Michael Hunt is shown watching his tee shot this past Thursday during the first leg of the District 4-3A boys golf tournament that was played in Snyder.
Hunt, a freshman, shot 78 and is tied for seventh place among medalists with 36 holes left. The second district leg will be Friday at Abilene.

Nemir wins two events at track meet in Merkel

April 3, 2013

Nick Nemir won both of the hurdles for Sweetwater’s varsity boys at the Merkel track meet, the Mustangs’ final tuneup before district competition that will be held next week in Snyder.
Nemir had winning times of 15.27 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 40.42 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. Deandre Gatson was third in the triple jump (42-2) and Isaiah McGee fourth in the long jump.

Allen, Baucom among 5 honored

Highland’s 6-1 junior post Sierra Allen has been named to the Abilene Reporter-News All-Big Country girls basketball team for Class 1A, Division II that was announced today.
Also, Highland girls coach Shea Baucom is the Repor-ter-News’ All-Big Country coach of the year.

Boys golf team 6th at district

April 1, 2013

Sweetwater is tied for sixth place after shooting a 352 during the first 18-hole leg of the boys district tournament at Snyder.
Sweetwater has two of the 12 teams that teed off at the Western Texas College Course on Thursday. The second leg of the tourna-ment is this Friday at Abi-lene’s Maxwell Course.
Big Spring leads with a 301 total followed by Wylie (309), Snyder (312), Sny-der No. 2 (341) and Wylie No. 2 (342). Greenwood and Sweetwater both shot 352 in the first round.
