Mustangs trample Perryton, 50-13

CANYON — Sweetwater’s football team was seriously tested on Thursday for the first time since it defeated Monahans three weeks ago to clinch a playoff berth.
The Mustangs trailed in a game Thursday for the first time since that 63-34 win, as Perryton led 7-0 in the opening minutes.

Wildcats rally past the Plowboys

BIG SPRING — For the first three quarters, Roscoe and Wink went back and forth at each other on the scoreboard — the Plowboys answering ever Wildcat TD with one of their own.
But Roscoe, which led after each period, wound up on the losing end of a 36-28 decision in a Class 2A, D-II bi-district contest.
Roscoe (5-6) held leads of 14-6, 21-14 and 28-22 at the quarter breaks.

Plowgirls fall to RL in opener

The Roscoe girls basketball team led 7-5 after one quarter of its season opener on Tuesday, but Robert Lee dominated the middle two periods to win, 37-28.
Robert Lee managed to build a double-digit lead by outscoring Roscoe 23-9 in the second and third quarters, and the Plowgirls were unable to catch up.
Mia Herrera was the top scorer for Roscoe with nine points while Sunshine Saddler finished with eight.
Samantha Ortega scored five points, and Dani Dean and Selena Perez both finished with three points.

Willard McFaul

Willard McFaul's last train departed this earthly station on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at 1:51 p.m. at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Roscoe with Reverend Adam Davis and Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Interment will follow at the Roscoe Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements. 

Mustangs celebrate their bi-district win

Sweetwater players celebrated on the field after their 50-13 bi-district win over Perryton on Thursday. The Mustangs, who improved to 11-0 with the win, will face either Bridgeport or Ferris in the area round. Roscoe lost 36-28 in its playoff with Wink, however. Christmas musical play ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’ comes to Sweetwater

One-night-only program is part of the ongoing APPLAUSE Music Series

The Abilene Christian University (ACU) is bringing their annual Christmas production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” to Sweetwater for the first time. With the Saturday, Dec. 6 production, Nolan County residents can enjoy the classic holiday tale during the one-night only event at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium.

Nolan County Food Pantry receives huge donation from USG plant

The Nolan County Food Pantry was the recipient of a giant donation this week.
More than 200 employees at the United States Gypsum (USG) plant in Sweetwater collected over 10,000 pounds of fare in its first company-wide food drive after the donation was given to the pantry earlier this week. Dozens of workers at the plant helped load the massive haul, which required a flatbed trailer to move it.

The Sweetwater High School robotics team left Friday morning to travel to Garland to compete in the U.S. Regional BEST Robotics Competition. Today will be the marketing events and the robotics competition is on Saturday. Live streaming of the game is available for families or friends who cannot attend.
