The spring season is in full bloom, which means it's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors!
On Saturday, April 27, Cornerstone Christian School will host "Beat the Street for Little Feet"--a family-fun event that will get everyone active and assist the local school. The function will be held on the school campus, located at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater.
ROTAN â William âBillâ Harris King, 72, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at his residence.Â Arrangements were made with Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.Â Services will be at a later date.
Bill was born Oct. 27, 1940, to R.L. and Dovie Waldine (White) King at Little Rock, Ark.Â He lived in Snyder until moving to Rotan in 1980.Â Bill then moved to Las Vegas, Nev. and then to Sweetwater in 2003.Â He was a devoted friend and was always willing to help others in any manner.Â
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Merrie King and Tammie King; and one sister, Brenda Morris.
Harold Duvall, age 83, of Roscoe, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Sweetwater.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Roscoe with Reverend Juanelle Jordan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Johanna DeJong Collins, 96, of Sweetwater, passed away on April 10, 2013.
Jo was born in Springfield, S.D. on Nov. 15, 1916. She graduated from Springfield High School and continued on to receive a teaching degree from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, S.D. and a Bachelor's degree in education from Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb.
A private family memorial service is planned with local arrangements by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued two citations and made five arrests on April 11, 2013.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served one civil paper and made no arrests on April 11, 2013.

Growing up my parents loved to listen to country music. Of course that meant that while we were traveling, we had the privilege of listening too. One song in particular stuck in my head that went like this: âIâve got a tiger by tail itâs plain to see...â Iâm sure many of you remember that song. The month of May has several events lined up, which were noted by City Manager Eddie Brown during his monthly report at Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
On May 4, a celebration marking 105 years of the Sweetwater Fire Department will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station. Grant Madden, the city's Emergency Services Director, extended an invitation to the commissions and the public for the event.
The Highland One Act Play has advanced to Area competition and will compete at the Area 2 Region II contest Saturday, April 13 at the Naoma Huff Performing Arts Center at Clyde High School.
The Highland cast of students is performing scenes from âAll My Sons,â by Arthur Miller, published by Dramatists Play Service.
During the Sweetwater City Commission on Tuesday morning at City Hall, a bid was awarded for the construction of a bulk water station which will be located at the Highland High Service Pump Station.
City engineer John Voller reviewed the two bids received by the city, but recommended the bid from Purcell Contracting Limited in Meridian, Texas.
Their project totaled $312,000 and had a completion date of 150 days from the start date. Although both bids were in compliance, the selected company's price came within the range hoped for by city staff.
The City of Roscoe and the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Rockinâ S Cantina to Roscoe with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
