SIS students place at DI Global Finals Competition

May 27, 2015

Seven students in the Gifted and Talented program at Sweetwater Intermediate School competed in the Destination Imagination competition. The competition has five categories and the students pick one to compete in. This team, called The Stone Agers, chose the scientific category called "making waves," in which they must create a sound machine that produces two different sounds along with two visible displays.

Summer Shootout set

Roscoe Collegiate has an-nounced its plans to hold a girls and boys basketball Summer Shootout, with the dates set for June 11-12. All games will be at the Roscoe Collegiate high school and middle school gyms.

Sweetwater High School announces Top 10 graduates

This year's Valedictorian for the Class of 2015 at Sweetwater High School is Corynn Martin with a grade point average of 100.889. Caroline Brennan is the Salutatorian with a grade point average of 99.408.

Construction progresses on RPMH dialysis center

Construction on Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital’s new dialysis center continues. Progress on the project represents a milestone toward advancing the availability of much-needed medical services locally.

Memorial Day ceremony held at Courthouse

May 26, 2015

A flag raising ceremony was held at the Nolan County Courthouse on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty. The Nolan County Honor Guard is shown during the ceremony.
Several wreaths were laid next to the World War II memorial at the courthouse. Members of Team Chip Tae Kwon Do raised the flag during the ceremony.

WASP Homecoming 2015

Twenty-one WASP traveled back to Sweetwater for the Ninth Annual WASP Homecoming held Saturday, May 23. Thoze Guyz set to release third genre-busting album

Brotherhood. That's the title of the third album set to be released by Thoze Guyz, a Sweetwater-based group which has quickly gained popularity from coast-to-coast, in many places Tejano music is popular.
Led by singer and guitarist Steve Lujan and Esteven "Chapo" Cerda, who plays the accordion and provides vocals, Thoze Guyz' roots go deep. According to Lujan, it truly is a brotherhood. He and Cerda began playing music together when they were about 10 years old.
