Registration for Sweetwa-ter Little League baseball began Monday and is be-ing held this week at the Sweetwater Middle School choir room. It continues today from 7-8:30 p.m., and will be held again from 6-8 p.m. on Friday.

Representatives from AES Wind Generation made a cash donation Friday to Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP) in the amount of $570. AES began donating to SNAP last year as part of its community outreach activities. SNAP is facing a $115,000 fiscal gap in 2015. The difference is made up by the City of Sweetwater using governmental funds.
The annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant is a time where young ladies from throughout the Big Country come together to compete for scholarship money.

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GS-TOP) announced that the largest girl-led business in the world is going digital with the introduction of COCOdirect, their online order system. Through the COCOdirect mobile app, local Girl Scouts will be able to take orders from customers and have them shipped directly to the customerâ€™s front door.
Plus, GS-TOP is piloting a new cookie flavor this year, the gluten free Trios. These new elements will further enhance the 2015 Cookie Season which will take place this year in the Abilene area from Jan. 16 to March 1.

Sweetwater boys will host Lubbock Estacado â€” JV at 5 p.m., freshmen at 6:30 p.m., varsity at 8 p.m.
Roscoe at Haskell â€” JV girls at 4 p.m., JV boys at 5:15 p.m., varsity girls at 6:30 p.m., varsity boys at 8 p.m.
Highland JV and varsity teams will host Hermleigh starting at 4 p.m.
Blackwell varsity girls and boys will host Robert Lee starting at 6:15 p.m.

FRIDAY, JAN. 23
The Sweetwater High School football team was honored at the Sweetwater Independent School Districtâ€™s recent board meeting. The 13-1 Mustangs were district champs and advanced to the Class 4A, Division II semifinals.
Bray Amos and Rebecca Gonzales won their respective weight classes this past Saturday for Sweetwater at Abilene Highâ€™s season-ope-ning powerlifting meet.

After a 2-4A doubleheader loss at Lamesa this past Friday, Sweetwaterâ€™s basketball teams host another Lubbock-area team tonight as they entertain Estacado in a varsity twinbill at Mus-tang Gym.
