The community of Sweetwater and Nolan County is mourning the loss of one of its beloved police officers. SGT Robert "Rob" Hohman with the Sweetwater Police Department passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Many members of the community remembered SGT Hohman and a great man and officer. See today's edition to read memories submitted by community members.
Weather in Nolan County today will be fair with a high of 83 degrees according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo. There is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, as well as tonight.
Hazardous Weather Conditions
On Sunday, August 23, First Presbyterian Church in Sweetwater will be celebrating Back to School and 134 years of ministry to Jesus at 9:30 a.m.
Everyone is invited to this celebration which will feature Elliott Powell, a Christian music artist and ordained Presbyterian minister. Powell travels the world and most recently completed his Holy Land Tour in Jerusalem and Israel.
He will lead Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:45 a.m. There will be a pot luck meal after worship.

Today will be mostly sunny and hot with a high near 98. Winds will be breezy and from the south at 15 to 20 mph.
Expect partly cloudy skies tonight, with a low around 76 and southern winds at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will enter the area on Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 97. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 mph.
Those rain chances will remain on Sunday night, with partly cloudy conditions and a low around 71. Winds from the east-southeast at 5 to 10 mph will shift to the north after midnight.
On Saturday, August 22, all Sweetwater Middle School seventh and eighth grade football players can pick up their pads from 8 a.m. to noon in the bottom gym at SMS.
Also, the annual Nolan Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Bar-B-Que will be on Saturday, August 22 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Nolan/Divide Community Center.
Plates will be brisket, chicken, and sausage with all the trimmings, with prices set for adult and children's (10 and under) plates.
This is their only fundraiser. They will have some music also; Donald Price and all the ones that play with him will be there.
Churches featured in this week's Religion section include: Bethel Assembly, Broadway Baptist Church, Emmanuel Fellowship Church, Faith Lutheran Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Shown is a yearbook photo of Todd Shelton, a graduate of Sweetwater High Schoolâs Class of 1985. He was participating in the DE (Distributive Education) program that prepared students for life after graduation. Experience gained from this job equipped Todd for his successful life in the ârealâ world. Todd married his high school sweetheart, Kelly Geron, and they made their home in Sweetwater. Be sure and visit with Todd at his 30 year class reunion during Homecoming, Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5.
