Lady Mustangs honored with resolution

The 2015 Sweetwater High School softball team was recently honored by Sweetwater ISD trustees with a resolution at their meeting. The resolution said the Lady Mustangs "have brought honor, pride, and distinction" to both the city and the Sweetwater ISD during the past season and "have excelled in performance" by winning the bi-district championship and "competing admirably" in the area playoffs against Fort Stockton. Pictured here are the team members who were on hand to be honored by trustees.

Nolan County Fair to feature opening act LoveSick Mary

Country music won't be the only genre highlighted when Thompson Square takes the stage at the 2015 Nolan County Fair, scheduled for Saturday, October 10 at the Nolan County Coliseum. One of the opening acts will be Denton-based alternative rock band LoveSick Mary.
LoveSick Mary came together in 2010 under the common desire to bring rock-n-roll back to the masses one memorable show at a time. The Denton, TX based band is often described as “...if Heart and Foo Fighters had a baby, it would be LoveSick Mary”.

Free mortgage financing workshop scheduled at Morgan Real Estate

Scott Morgan, Broker with Morgan Real Estate, is announcing that a free workshop will be held this Tuesday, June 30, from 5-6 p.m. at his office at 217 Oak Street in downtown Sweetwater. Local reputable lenders from First Financial Bank, Texas National Bank, and Roscoe State Bank will be at Morgan's office to discuss the various loan products available for today's homebuyers.

Mobile Congressional Office Hours held at the Courthouse

Representatives from Congressman Randy Neugebauer's office were at the Nolan County Courthouse on Friday for "Mobile Congressional Office Hours", where constituents within District 19 can meet with the Congressman's staff to discuss their concerns within the district as well as at the federal level. Walking Women of Fisher County to host benefit dance

For six years now, Johnnye Lu Gibson, director of Walking Women of Fisher County, has held a benefit dance with all proceeds going towards Alzheimer's. After seeing her father suffer from Alzheimer's and pass in 2007, it was more than evident why she began this fundraiser and continues to do so.
Best friend to Johnnye Lu, Georgia McGough, co-coordinator, said "You just have to keep a sense of humor and laugh. We think of all the memories and have to laugh because of the silly things he (Johnnye's dad) used to say."

Highland Heights to host rummage, bake sale

SHS student selected to attend U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar

Sweetwater High School Senior, Mary Morris was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar in Annapolis, Maryland. The program is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school.

Sweetwater's weekend weather outlook

Today we'll have a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 93. Winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 mph.
Those rain chances will increase to 40 percent tonight, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 70. Winds from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph will shift to the west after midnight.
Rain chances will linger in the area on Saturday but will disappear by Saturday night. Expect weekend highs in the upper 80s/low 90s, with lows in the upper 60s/low 70s. Winds will shift from the northeast on Saturday to the southeast by Sunday.

Ribbon cutting held for Coliseum, SEED digital sign

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new digital sign outside of Allsup’s convenience store. The sign will be a more efficient way to inform the residents of Sweetwater and the travelers received throughout the summer with upcoming events, weather updates, time and date. The growth of Sweetwater is moving quickly and with technology advancing further each day, the use and effectiveness of this new update is a great addition to local information boards and the growing community.
