SW back on the road to face G’wood

The Sweetwater football team is becoming road war-riors. The latest example is the Mustangs’ six-point win at Fort Stockton last week, which came after a 62-48 non-district win at Andrews two weeks earlier — with an open date week in between.
Next up is a trip Friday to Midland Greenwood, which like Sweetwater is 1-0 in district play after its 36-14 win last week over Lamesa.

SMS football teams start district play

Fort Stockton 6
Adam Perez scored five touchdowns, three rushing and two receiving, in Sweetwater White’s win as the Colts ran their record to 5-0.
Perez not only ripped off scoring runs of 48, 56 and 96 yards but also caught TD passes of 78 and 92 yards from Jackson Foster.
In addition, Foster threw to Jagger Carter for a two-point conversion and Audy Yarbrough had a two-point run.

JV volleyballers remain unbeaten in district

Sweetwater High School’s JV volleyball team brings a 5-0 record into its District 2-4A match at Snyder today after a 25-17, 25-11 win at Big Spring on Saturday.
The freshman team fell to 2-3 in district on Saturday after losing to Big Spring 22-25, 25-19, 8-25.

Sweetwater freshman and JV teams will host Midland Greenwood at 5 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Sweetwater 7th and 8th grade teams will play at Midland Greenwood at 5 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.

6-man teams hope to build on success in final tuneups

Sweetwater and Roscoe begin district play today.
But the two Nolan County six-man football teams have another test before starting district in two weeks. Blackwell (3-3) is at Santa Anna today; Highland (2-3) welcomes Lueders-Avoca in its homecoming game set for 6 p.m. Saturday.

But the 5-0 Mustangs begin the “second season” Friday, when Sweetwater travels out to Fort Stockton to play its District 2-4A, Division II opener.
