Michael Hunt of Sweet-water will make his first trip to regionals next week after shooting his best round of the District 4-3A golf tour-nament Tuesday while play-ing on his home course.
After shooting 77s in the first two rounds of the tour-nament, Hunt carded a 74 in his final round — which was played at Sweetwater Country Club — to finish fourth among district medalists with a 228 total.
A great pitching effort and timely hitting Tuesday allowed Sweetwater to end its three-game losing streak by beating Midland Green-wood, 5-1, here Tuesday.
Sweetwater (3-3, 16-6) solidified its sagging playoff hopes out of District 4-3A by moving within a game of Snyder and Big Spring, who are both 4-2 and tied for second place after the Steers — once 0-2 — won their fourth straight Tuesday by beating the Tigers, 9-5. The Mustangs also moved ahead of Monahans (2-4), which lost 14-4 Tuesday to first-place Wylie, which is 5-1.
Enjoying a 7-5 lead after five innings, the Sweetwater Lady Mustang softball team seemed headed for its first district win of the season when it faced second-place Midland Greenwood here Tuesday. But Greenwood ruined the celebration with a 10-run assault in the last two innings to beat Sweet-water, 15-11.
Greenwood which trails first-place Snyder by two games, improved to 5-2 in district play and 12-12 over-all. Sweetwater, despite by far its highest-scoring game in district play so far, fell to 0-7 and 9-13.

Beating Greenwood at home today would end the Sweetwater baseball team’s three-game losing streak in district play and help its playoff hopes. The softball team also plays Greenwood here today, and with an 0-6 district record, the Lady Mustangs simply can’t af-ford another loss if they are to reach the postseason.
Sweetwater High School’s girls golf team shot a final round 382 Monday at Sny-der’s Western Texas College for a third-place finish at the 54-hole, three-leg District 4-3A golf tournament.
Despite missing a regional berth, Sweetwater beat out five of the district’s eight competing golf teams with a three-round 1,104 total. The two teams who are advancing to regionals are Snyder (1,001) and Monahans (1,012). Sweetwater’s No. 2 team shot 443-1,264 for a seventh-place finish.
The regional tournament will be played April 16-17 at Lubbock.
Michael Hunt of Sweet-water shot another 77 Sat-urday in the second round of the District 4-3A boys golf tournament for a 154 total, leaving him in sixth place among medalists en-tering the final round Tues-day when the tournament moves to Sweetwater.
If he maintains his position, Hunt will qualify for regional competition next week with the second-best score — trailing only Jacob Lair (150) of Monahans — among all players not on one of the top two teams.
Big Spring (608) and Abi-lene Wylie (625) currently rank 1-2, with Sweetwater in fifth place at 670.
Sierra Allen of Highland on Sunday was named to the Abilene Reporter-News’ All-Big Country girls basketball Super Team for the second straight year.
Highland was the host school Friday for its annual Hilltop Relays, which served as a tuneup for the district and area track meets it will host later this month start-ing with district Thursday.
Highland’s girls were second in the team standings with 76 points while Blackwell had eight. Black-well’s boys were fourth in their division with 62 points and Highland 11th (22). Individual points follow:
