It was a non-district game against a Class 2A opponent. Still, Friday’s 19-4 romp against Crane at Jerry Collins Complex was a very impressive way for the Sweetwater softball team to begin a five-game homestand.
The 19 runs represented the Lady Mustangs’ highest output of the year, and they needed less than four full innings to amass their total — as well as get 13 hits — against Crane.
The Sweetwater girls golf team shot a 356 total this past Thursday to outpace its nearest competitor at the Lamesa Invitational tourn-ament by 59 strokes.
Merkel came in a distant second with a 415 total, while Kermit (421) was third, Midland Christian (422) fourth and Lamesa (454) fifth. Fourteen schools were entered in the event.
Sweetwater also had four of the top six medalists as Alex Gomez (86) was sec-ond, Elise Lawrence (89) was fourth, Sarah Witt (90) was fifth and Jodie May (91) was sixth. Shanae Ammons of Lubbock Trinity shot 84 to capture medalist honors.
