With less than four min-utes to play in the first half, things were looking good for Sweetwater in Fridayâs battle with Brownwood for a district playoff berth at Mustang Bowl.
While the game was tied at 7-7, Sweetwater had the ball and, after forcing a Brownwood punt moments earlier, had the momentum as well. But then things started to go sour for the Mustangs as Brownwood made its decisive run.

Brownwood scored in the first, second and fourth quarters in beat-ing Sweetwater White, which scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kaegan Jeffrey to Martese Harris in the third quarter plus a two-point Jeffrey conversion pass to Duanta Williams. âThe kids played tough and gave 100 percent all four quarters,â said coach Jarrett Vickers.

Brownwood and Sweetwater Red were locked in an 8-8 tie at halftime until the host team pulled away over the final two quarters.
ASPERMONT â This is one Highland wonât forget for awhile.
The Hornets, a big under-dog to Aspermont, stayed with their hosts from start to finish in a thrilling six-man football game Friday.
The Sweetwater High School volleyball team held a ceremony to recognize its players after Tuesdayâs match against Wylie that ended the season. ROSCOE â The struggles continue for Roscoeâs Plowboys, who saw their record fall to 0-9 after losing to Rawls, 28-7, on Friday.
Roscoe avoided a shutout on a 2-yard run by Eric Padilla with 1:36 left in the game, but by then the Jackrabbits (4-5, 3-1 district) had things well in hand as they clinched a playoff berth in Dist-rict 7-1A, Division II.
But offense has been a problem all year for the Plowboys, who have scored just 55 points and reached double figures in a game just once.
PAINT ROCK â Blackwell was defeated by Paint Rock, 62-12, in a District 8 Six-Man Division II matchup on Friday.
With the win, Paint Rock improved to 2-0 district (7-2 over-all) while dropping Blackwellâs records to 1-1 district, 1-8 season. The Indians are the districtâs only unbeaten team and have clinched a playoff berth, while Blackwell must defeat Panther Creek (1-1) at home this Friday to secure a postseason spot.
No individual information was available at press time for Black-well, which was coming off a forfeit victory over Novice in its district opener last week.

Itâs the season finale for Sweetwater (1-2, 4-5), which must beat Brownwood to have a shot at claiming a playoff berth for the first time since 2008. The Lions come in at 1-1, 5-3 and still have a game with Wylie to end their regular season.
