TNB recognizes two with True Texan Award

The True Texan Award is a quarterly award given to team members at Texas National Bank who take pride in their work, do what’s best for the team and always put the customer first. Award recipients are given an extra paid day of vacation and a small cash prize. The True Texans for the third quarter 2014 are Deadra Kelley (left) and Kathy Staggs (right).

Local law enforcement agencies looking for suspect

Police are on the lookout for Timothy Cantu, 20, of Sweetwater.

According to officers with the Sweetwater Police Department, Cantu was identified as the passenger of a vehicle during a routine traffic stop Wednesday morning before fleeing the scene.

Officers gave chase to Cantu and several law enforcement agencies including the Sweetwater P.D., the Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO), Texas Dept. of Public Safety and the 32nd Judicial District set up a perimeter around a field near Alabama and Throckmorton.

Bob Livingston, Walt Wilkins and others headline Third Annual West Texas and Beyond Revue

The Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition & Renovation (STTAR) board of directors announces the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium as the location for this year’s Third Annual West Texas & Beyond Revue, hosted by Texas Music Ambassador Bob Livingston. The live music extravaganza will be held on Saturday evening, Nov. 22.

SHS sets high goal for 2014 Goodfellows Food Drive

Sweetwater High School announced that the students will try to collect more than 1,000 cans for the 2014 Sweetwater Goodfellows Canned Food Drive. The school effort is being spearheaded by teacher Jamie Ince.

Ribbon cutting held at Courthouse

November 19, 2014

A Masonic cornerstone ceremony and ribbon cutting were held for the Nolan County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon. Shown are Precinct 4 Commissioner Tony Lara, Precinct 3 Commissioner Tommy White, Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas Graham Childress, County Judge Tim Fambrough, Precinct 1 Commissioner Terry Willman and Precinct 2 Commissioner Terry Locklar.

Roger W. Brooks, 69 of Big Spring, Texas died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Stanton. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton.
He was born Feb. 27, 1945 in San Angelo. He married Carla Perry June 27, 1975 in Midland.

Five Lady ‘Stangs named all-district

November 19, 2014

Five Sweetwater High School athletes have earned all-District 2-4A volleyball recognition.
Kensi Chowning, who led the 22-13 Lady Mustangs in kills this season, was honored as District 2-4A’s outstanding hitter.
Setter Maddie Jones and middle hitter Mikeilah Foust made the first team, while outside hitter Maddie Berry and libero Morgan Gomez were both named to the all-district second team.

Today, November 19, the Adult Literacy/ESL class will meet at the County-City Library at 9:30 a.m.
Instructors will help you learn to read, improve your reading skills, improve your English skills or help you read to your children. There will be no Adult Literacy/ESL class on Wednesday, November 26.
Also, Home School Story Hour will be at the County-City Library from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Library staff will provide stories and activities for the children.
Home School Story Hour is held every third Wednesday of the month. Call 235-4978 for more information.
