For most local football observers, the jury is still out on just how good this year’s Sweetwater team is after the Mustangs’ 10-0 victory over Vernon in their season opener.
The defense had a shutout for the first time in the Craig Slaughter era and the kicking game was rock solid with Tadeo Canon-Masjoan nailing his kickoffs deep, as well as kicking a 32-yard field goal and his only extra point attempt. It was almost exactly one year ago when Roscoe gave Jonathan Haseloff his first win as the team’s head coach with a 19-6 victory over Hawley.
Today in the opener of the Sammy Baugh Classic at Sweetwater’s Mustang Bowl, the Plowboys (0-1) try to duplicate that feat when they face Hawley (1-0). The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
