November 30th
One person was killed and one injured in a one vehicle rollover crash occurring at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. The crash was one mile North of County Road 145 on County Road 147 in Nolan County.
A 2007 Nissan Frontier pickup, driven by Louis Dakota-Chance Green, 19, of Sweetwater, was traveling North on County Road 147. As the vehicle approached a steep dip in the roadway, Green lost control of the vehicle. The passenger, Hilton Dean Goff, 18, of Iraan, was ejected during the rollover.
The National WASP WWII Museum hosted a 5K Run and a 1.2 mile walk to celebrate their freedom for Veterans Day 2010 called Run for the WASP.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, the National WASP WWII Museum honored the American veterans that have served their country and helped preserve the nation's freedoms. The course for the 5K run was around the Sweetwater Texas State Technical College campus and the walk started at the WASP Museum and ended at the WASP wishing well. The walk and run began and ended at the WASP Museum.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly chamber coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Calvin and Company Real Estate, LLC, located at 1408 E. Broadway.
The 3-0 Sweetwater boys basketball team will try to keep its record perfect when it travels to Wall today for a 7:30 p.m. contest, and the 2-4 Sweetwater girls will be hosting Clyde starting at 6:30 p.m. Today’s action for both Sweetwater teams will be their first since taking a short break for the Thanksgiving holiday.

In light of the upcoming holidays, the Meek Blood Center in Abilene is in need of any and all blood donors. However, the blood center has a current shortage of type O negative.
Francis Baker is the donor recruiter with the Meek Blood Center. She said that only six percent of the population has type O negative blood. "It is the universal donor, and we have to have a certain amount of it on hand," Baker noted.
Sweetwater Goodfellows work hard every year to provide toys and food for people in Nolan County that need assistance during the Christmas season. For the past 81 years, the Goodfellows have been spreading Christmas cheer to local families in need; this year, they are expanding that area and including all of Nolan County. Instead of only serving Sweetwater, they will now be taking on Roscoe, Maryneal, Nolan and Blackwell. Last year, the Goodfellows helped out almost 1,000 individuals between the 889 individuals signed up for Goodfellows and the 103 nursing home residents receiving sweatshirts.
Sweetwater Christian School students fill boxes for those less fortunate. The children have been learning about sharing during the Thanksgiving season.
Sweetwater Middle School coaches, Jill Locklar and Carla Lambert are the third Funderwear recipients for the 2010-2011 school year. Coach Locklar and Coach Lambert have Acquired the Fire by engaging, motivating and inspiring.
Their nomination stated, “They put in many hours to see that the Friday Night Fight would be a success. They went above and beyond by connecting with Snyder. These two very special ladies put their whole heart into their efforts and do not expect anything in return. They just want a cure for cancer, especially Jill who has beaten this disease twice.”
Funeral services for Lillie Cook Burwick, 80, of Blackwell, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Blackwell Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Casey officiating. Interment will follow at Blackwell Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Burwick died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, in San Angelo.
Rosa Lavell Bredemeyer, age 92, of Roscoe, Texas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Roscoe Cemetery with Pastor Curtis Ward officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
